The Complete Guide to Auto Body Repair (Motorbooks Workshop)

My teenage son is not really very happy and offers started nagging me about creating a simple carport. He has been thrifty enough, unlike the majority of teenagers, to save up and buy his own car. Unfortunately we should not have enough garage space to help garage his car so he parks it in the driveway.

However my son is concerned about his pride together with joy being left outside inside elements so has drawn up some simple carport options which he believes are really easy that his Dad, being a handy do it yourself guy, should have built in no time. His plans are for a structure that has a simple frame for the roof which attaches aside of the house just under the gutter line and is held up by two hardwood posts nine ankle high. These posts are to be attached to a metal fitting concreted in the ground because if a wooden post is exposed to the ground it will rot out very quickly. Roofing iron of a color that matches the house will be attached on the roof frame with top screws. One problem that i immediately saw in his plans was that they had planned the carport size to fit his current small racecar. What happens when he decides he wishes to trade it in on the large four wheel get. I therefore need to learn what size carport I have to build to fit the majority of cars so that I do not have to rebuild it in the longer term for a larger size car.

One neighbors caught me looking into his carport and confirmed me the stays he had to put in place because his carport nearly blew down inside big wind storm not too long ago. He told me that roof acted like a parachute lifting the main carport off the ground. Now I never contemplated that happening. I have also heard that if you live in areas where there is a lot of snow you have to slope the roof on the simple carport enough so that the snow falls off along with the roof does not collapse under most of the weight of the snowfall.
