A Guide to Auto Repair Estimating
One of the basic things every car owner must learn and know is how to estimate. Many drivers do not know the correct way of estimating. But this page will give you information regarding auto repair estimates and other things related to estimating.
Let’s first learn the meaning of auto repair estimates. The truth as a matter of fact is auto repair estimates has other names too. It can be called as damage report, auto damage estimate or auto estimate. No matter how different their names are it still refers to a sheet of paper which are a listing of expenses recorded on it. This list of costs is a contract between the car repairer and the owner. They both need to agree on the price that is listed on the paper.
However, the total amount reflected on the paper is not always the final cost. Remember that an estimate is only a description of a speculated cost of something you may need to spend. So, you have to expect that the total amount may change. As an example, there may be hidden damages that are not inspected during the diagnosis of the vehicle’s problem. These hidden damages may only be checked during the auto repair. Hence, do not be frustrated if there are additional fees, which are called a supplement, to be charged.
Auto repair shops use Mitchell Estimate Guides in creating estimates. It includes the writing of expenses as reflected on all of the damages. Through the estimating guide, the mechanics will write down all prices of parts and labor that are needed to use to complete the repair. They can either do the estimation through hand written or the use of a computer.
Every auto repair shop assigns somebody to be in charge of doing auto repair estimates for customers. Some shops require more than one estimator which is better so you can always get the most approximate estimates.

Nice article as it pertains to body work. I think that some of it suggests that the estimating process is the same for mechanical repair and body work. This is not my experience so it might me nice to have a post for consumers that specifically addresses mechanical repair and one for body shop repair. Thanks for the post!
